Responsibility of Love

Ok. 6:35. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because He is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.

The minister decided to have the children in the nursery come into the sanctuary so he could lay his hands on each one and pray for God to bless each one. All was going well until the last little girl. She ran from him. He went after her and she ran faster. She didn’t want a blessing. Many adults are that way. They don’t want to receive love or blessings. They are afraid of the responsibility that might come with love and blessings. Both require a response. Both require a responsibility; how to receive and what to do with them. Some might not want to pass these on to others for fear of being rejected. Others might think receiving them might require a debt to the giver. The more individualistic we become, the harder it becomes for us to relate with each other, let alone give and receive love and blessings. Our question is will we choose to obey God’s command to love even those we deem to be our enemies or will we give in to our carnal, human fears?
