I Am Gentle and Humble

Matthew 11:29. Take my yoke on you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

A yoke is a double neck harness used to keep oxen working together. Jesus wants us to be working with Him. We tend to go off on our own. He also describes Himself to be gentle and humble in heart. I’m sure we’ve all known people who confessed humility with their mouths yet we could see pride and arrogance in their actions. When we fake something there is no rest. Jesus said humble in heart. Our humility must be an honest humility. We must really accept we are no better than the next person. We are sinners. The difference is we are forgiven through the blood of Jesus.

I Am the Sender

Matthew 10:16 “I am sending you out like sheep surrounded by wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.

Jesus says He is sending us out. We are to go out to the unsaved. We are to be wise which means we should be sure to have the full armor of God (a previous post) on for protection and wisdom. At the same time we should be innocent as doves. Doves represent the Holy Spirit. They also represent peace. As we witness and testify we are to do it in a gentle, peaceful way. We must always be accepting of the person as we share the life God wants to give them. We are not to finger point or shame them. Jesus had compassion for the sinners. His anger was only against what the religious leaders were doing. Let us welcome all, respect all and encourage all to come to God through His Son, Jesus.

I Am Willing

Matthew 8:3. He stretched out his hand and touched him saying, “I am willing. Be clean!” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

We’ve looked at the Old Testament to see how God defines Himself. Did you notice God almost always uses the present tense? God is in the here and now and that’s where we should be. Now we look at Jesus, the Word of God incarnate in the flesh of man. We first see Him say, “I Am willing.” Jesus is willing to touch us and heal us. The healing is not only for the physical but also for the emotional and spiritual. As that man’s leprosy was cleansed, so also are our sins. Jesus didn’t single that man out. The man had to go to Him and ask Him for healing. So, too, with us. We must go to Jesus and ask for cleansing from our sins and the healing we may need.

I Am God of All

Jeremiah 32:27. “I am the Lord, the God of all humankind. There is, indeed, nothing too difficult for me.”

Sometimes the solution to our problems seem way too difficult for us. Isn’t it wonderful to know nothing is too difficult for God. I hang on that promise. As I pray for loved ones who are not believers, and progress appears hopeless, I remember nothing is too difficult for God. I know it is His will for all to come to Him through Jesus, His Son. That means He will accomplish that in the lives of those I pray for. He can do anything by Himself but has chosen for us to unite with His power through our prayers. When things look hopeless and too difficult we need to make sure the solution we want is in line with God’s will, pray and thank God for His power. Absolutely nothing is too difficult for our God.

I Am Master

Jeremiah 3:14 “Come back to me, my wayward sons,” says the Lord, “for I am your true master. If you do, I will take one of you from each town and two of you from each family group, and I will bring you back to Zion.

“I Am your true Master.” A master is in complete control. So many times we act as wayward children of God. We confess our belief and trust yet we often choose to go our own way. We look to others or other things and allow them to be our master. We allow ourselves to be addicted to things and come under the control of that addiction. If we would consistently choose to follow the instructions of God, the “true Master.” We would find our lives full of His power, joy, peace and love. Take time with God and allow Him to show you areas in your life where He isn’t the master.

I Am Celebration

Isaiah 57:19 I am the one who gives them reason to celebrate. Complete prosperity is available both to those who are far away and those who are nearby,” says the Lord, “and I will heal them.

God is the One Who gives us reason to celebrate. We celebrate every Sunday in church. Sunday is resurrection day. We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and the promise of eternal life with God. Why is this the only day many celebrate? We have a reason to celebrate throughout each and every day. We celebrate all the “I Am’s” God uses to describe Himself. Prosperity means to be thriving, successful, flourishing. When we walk with God our lives are thriving, successful and flourishing. Before I personally met Jesus my life was becoming boring. I was just going through daily routines, solving trials and problems myself and waiting to become old and die. Walking with God continually brings new adventures and joys at how God works. He continually heals us from the blackness of sins and refills us with His Holy Spirit. Let us continually celebrate God.

I Am Consoler

Isaiah 51:12
12 “I, I am the one who consoles you. Why are you afraid of mortal men, of mere human beings who are as short-lived as grass?

God says, “I Am the One Who consoles you.” How we like to moan and complain to others. We want them to know how bad things are for us. We want their sympathy. We want them to feel sorry for us. Maybe the can give limited comfort for a limited time but it is God Who can give total consolation and turn our minds and emotions to hope and joy in Him. No amount of human reasoning can do what God will do for us if we would just look to Him. He says He hears the moaning of our hearts even before we are aware of them ourselves. When we go through hard and/or sad times, who do we seek, who do we call out to? Let it be the One Who really knows what we are facing and how we are to walk through it.

I Am Protector and Teacher

Isaiah 48:17. This is what the Lord, your protector, says, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you how to succeed, who leads you in the way you should go.”

God says ,”I Am your Protector.” Since He is our protector what is there to fear or worry about? Absolutely nothing. He also says He teaches us to succeed and leads us in the way we should go. If we walk in the way we should go we will succeed. Our question is how do we know the way? Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. All are found in and through Him. He showed us how to live. Through His Holy Spirit God chosen men recorded His teachings and all is available to us in written form in the Holy Bible. Our problem is we want to pick and choose which laws of God we will follow. We like to say some of His statutes don’t apply in our time and place. We like to take verses out of context and make them say something they don’t just to prove a point we want to make. This is why I encourage those who read these devotions to open your Bibles and read the entire passage. These devotions are intended to be a short jump-start for your own devotional time and an encouragement to explore new or different thoughts. God wants His best for us. He gave us His best, Jesus.

I Am Order

Isaiah 45:18. For this is what the Lord says, the one who created the sky-he is the true God, the one who formed the earth and made it; he established it, he did not create it without order, he formed it to be inhabited “I am the Lord, I have no peer.”

We’ve already read how God is The Lord, the creator of all that is, the one true God. He is also God of order. Everything on this earth has a God-made order and use. Think about our bodies and how all the cells work together in proper order, each one doing what God designed it to do and working in order with other cells. We, through our neglect are the ones who get things out-of-order. As I look at my crowded calendar I often see disorder. It is only when I take my calendar with me into my prayer closet and consult God that it comes into order of priorities and what needs to be when. When we find our lives in disorder it is a sure sign that we are missing our time with the God of Order.

I Am Peace

Isaiah 45:7 I am the one who forms light and creates darkness; the one who brings about peace and creates calamity. I am the Lord, who accomplishes all these things

We looked at “I Am the One Who formed light and creates darkness.” He also said, “I Am the One Who brings about peace and creates calamity.” As apoplectic we can create a false sense of peace. We seem peaceful on the outside, we act peaceful to others, but on the inside things can be quite different. The only way for pure peace is through God, Who is the creator if peace. He is the only One Who can give us peace. We see God combining opposites; light and darkness, peace and calamity. We would not know what peace means without knowing calamity, nor what light means without darkness. That God creates all emphasizes He is alone all-powerful and in control of all that was, is or will ever be. It amazes me that with all God is and does He actin ally loves me (and you) more than any of his other creations. He loves us so much He was willing for His Word to become flesh in Jesus Christ to show us His live and to reunite us into His Image.
