Victory Over Temptation

Matthew 4:11. Then the devil left him, and angels came and began ministering to his needs.

After Jesus resisted the tempter the angels came and provided for His needs. After we are successful in facing down our temptations the Holy Spirit gives us a sensation of victory. We are tempted because we fear our needs and or wants will not be without the temptation. Each time we are successful in facing down the temptation our faith in God’s provision and love grows. As it says in James 1:2-5 “My brothers and sisters, a consider it nothing but joy b when you fall into all sorts of trials, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect effect, so that you will be perfect and complete, not deficient in anything. But if anyone is deficient in wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without reprimand, and it will be given to him.” Temptation is not brought on by God, but by our own fleshly desires. God allows it for our growth. During lent when we are tempted to take up what we said we would do without or not do what we said we would do, let us remember how Jesus faced temptation and follow His example.
