Second Greatest

Leviticus 19:18. You must not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the children of your people, but you must love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.

This must be very important because God validates what He says by stating He is the Lord. Notice He didn’t say “a lord” but “The Lord.” This means there is only one Lord and that is God. What is it that is so crucial? Jesus explains this Old Testament verse in Matthew 5:43-44
“You have heard that it was said, Love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemy and a pray for those who persecute you.” We must remember this form of love means to want God’s best for someone. We are to love all in this way. Jesus goes on to say in Matthew 22:38-39. “This is the first and greatest commandment. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.” The greatest commandment is to love God with our entire being. Loving our neighbors is the second greatest but as Jesus explains it all people on this earth are to be considered neighbors. There is usually someone who always irritates us and we like to avoid them. Let’s learn to pray for them and we will find our perspective slowly changes as we continue praying.
