Wet Blanket

Mark 16:9-10. Early on the first day of the week, after he arose, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had driven out seven demons. She went out and told those who were with him, while they were mourning and weeping.

Here, again, Jesus appears to a woman. He had turned her life around. She saw Him, heard Him and believed Him. Imagine her joy seeing and hearing for herself her Savior standing and talking to her after such a terrible death. She had to share such immense joy. What a contrast: her great joy and the mourning and weeping of the others. When we are in the throes do disparity it is hard to have someone around who us full of joy and saying the opposite of what we believe. They didn’t believe her. Let’s put ourselves in their place. We haven’t experienced the Holy Spirit yet so we have no witness within ourselves. We have never heard of someone coming alive after such a death. Lazarus was different as he died of sickness. His body wasn’t beaten like that of Jesus. This was unbelievable. Let’s put ourselves into Mary’s situation. She was thrilled. She was so very sure her experience was real. It would be very frustrating not to be believed. What about us today? When someone shares a spiritual insight or experience with us do we acknowledge it was real for them or do we throw a wet blanket on them.?
