True Commitment

Mark 15:40. There were also women, watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome.

Did you notice there were only 4 who stood by Jesus as He died on the cross? One man and 3 women. It stands to reason He first appears to the women who were so faithful to Him. The rest of His followers were too afraid for their own lives to stand with Him. These 4 were willing to suffer anything to stay with Him and remain faithful. This brings us to our question. When the going gets tough who do we seek to protect? We really don’t know how we will react in a crisis. I remember that young girl at Columbine High School who stood up to face the boy with a gun and confirm she was a Christian. What commitment. She was shot as soon as the words were out of her mouth. How do we ready ourselves for such a commitment? To be faithful in our commitment we must know with absolute assurance Who Jesus is, what He promised and what part we have in the fulfillment of His promise. This promise is contained in John 3:16. Let’s get our own Bibles out, read it and the entire chapter and commit to studying His written word to make all of it very real in our hearts, minds and lives.
