Denying Jesus Is Alive

Matthew 28:11 While they were going, behold, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had taken place.

Please read the verses that follow. The guards saw the empty tomb. They were there when the angels rolled the stone away. I’m sure they were scared and confused. Nothing like that had ever happened. They were probably trembling when they reported to their superiors. They had been told to guard the tomb to see no one could take His body and claim He had risen from the dead. They were expecting to get into big trouble. Instead they were paid to lie about what happened. They were very happy to lie because they had a reward rather than a punishment. What about us today? Why do we deny Jesus is alive through our words or actions? We may not say He is not alive but we do say and act out as if He is no longer alive within us. What is our motive? Are we more concerned with what others think than we are with being loyal to our Lord? The next time we say something hurtful or turn our backs on someone’s need let’s remember we are acting as if Jesus is not alive.
