John 21:15-17 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.

There is so much in these 3 verses. We will only touch the surface and I hope you will take time to do an in-depth study and meditation on these verses. Peter denied Jesus 3 times. Jesus asked Peter if he loved Him 3 times. To truly understand what Jesus was asking we need to look to the original Greek translation. In the English language there is only one word for “love.” We use the word in so many ways and so many levels. There is still debate among Biblical scholars as to what words for “love” were actually used. Some think when Jesus asked Peter if he love Him more than “these” He was referring to the boats and fishing, the life style Peter was accustomed to. Others think Jesus was referring to Peter loving his friends more than Him. Others think Jesus and Peter were using different words for love implying different levels of love. What is important is Jesus was telling Peter to show his love for Him by feeding the sheep. That is His message to us We are to feed others by sharing Jesus with them: Who He is to us,, what He does for us, how to have Him in our hearts, minds and lives. Our question is are we feeding someone today?
