Hebrews 9:26b But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

Some wonder what the writer of Hebrews means by saying Christ appeared at the end of the age. Between the time of Adam and Eve until the cross of Jesus we were in the age of preparation. Satan was doing all he could to keep man separated from God and God was preparing mankind for the coming of the Son. When Jesus died on the cross the age of preparation was over. Satan was defeated and man was free to choose who he would honor and worship God or Satan. Hebrews 1:2 and Acts 2:117 refer to the time we are in as “the last days” Nowhere does it say how long the time of preparation would be before the cross. Every Jewish maiden wondered if she would be chosen to bring the Christ into the world. Nowhere does it say how long the “last days” will be. Even Jesus said He didn’t know when the Father would send Him back to bring us home. Since we don’t know when He is coming back for us it is important for us to be about the work without waste. We must not let a single opportunity pass by without testifying to others of the identity of Jesus and the way to the presence of God. Our question is do we realize the urgency?
