Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Hebrews 11:1

This chapter of Hebrews is known as “the faith chapter.” Stop a moment and take time to read the entire chapter before continuing with your jump-start devotional time. Faith is given to us by God in times past. It is practiced by us in the present and in God’s hands of the truth of His promise in the future forever. Faith is illustrated to us by those of the past and is fully illustrated through Jesus, the author and finisher of faith. Before Jesus people had only the example of faulty men and women of faith. Now we can fix our eyes on Jesus and walk in faith with the assurance of His promise. We can walk in faith with assurance because Jesus is always the same (reference Hebrews 1:8, 12). It doesn’t matter how changeable our circumstances might be, the life of Jesus, His love, holiness, grace, justice, truth and power are always the same. Where will our focus be: on our changeable circumstances or on the changeless power, love, grace, justice, truth and holiness of Jesus?
