Individual Gifts

Romans 12:6-8 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.

We are bombarded with envy and jealousy. We hear a great musician and wish we could do that. We hear a gifted speaker and wish we could speak eloquently like that. We see a beautiful painting or photograph and wish we could do that. We seem to always be wanting some else’s gift or ability. God gives each one of us gifts unique to us. He doesn’t want us to waste time wishing for someone else’s gift or trying to imitate a gift we don’t have. He wants us to work at the gift He gives us and become proficient and comfortable using what He has chosen to give us. It’s just like our body. We have one body but our body has many parts. I am so glad my toes don’t say they want to see like my eyes do. My head would have a lot of bumps if I had to depend on my toes for sight. Let us choose not to envy the gifts of others but learn to flow in the gifts God has chosen for us as individual members of His Body.
