John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

These words were said by Jesus to the original disciples who were with Him before He ascended to heaven. A this time there were no gospels or letters which now comprise the New Testament portion of our Holy Bible. They had no records of their time with Jesus other than what their memories could bring forth. We all know how fickle our memories are. Jesus was promising them He would send His Holy Spirit to them to help them recall all He said and did while with them on this earth. How do we apply these words to us? As we read the words the Holy Spirit brought to the minds of those disciples, He will give us insight into the meaning of those words as they apply to our time and space today. We are not to blank our minds and do nothing but wait and expect the Holy Spirit to teach us all we should know. God expects us to use the tools He’s provided us. He will help us use the tools but we must pick them up and avail ourselves of them. When we open the Holy Bible we need to ask the Holy Spirit to give us understanding for applying His written word to our lives in the here and now.
