Renewing Minds

Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Being transformed into the image of God is not an instantaneous miracle that just happens. Yes, it takes the Holy Spirit within us through Jesus Christ for the transforming work to happen but it also takes the renewing of our minds. Our minds have been formed by a sinful world. They must be renewed through the study of God’s written word, the Holy Bible. Jesus studied the scriptures that we know as the Old Testament when He was a boy. He committed them to memory. He used them to defeat Satan and to teach mankind about God the Father. Jesus already was with the Father while those very scriptures were written yet He committed the time to study them. How much more do we need to study the scriptures and renew our minds. Let us memorize (never too old to do so, just slower). Let us pray the scriptures. Let us sing the scriptures. Let us meditate on the meaning of the scriptures both in the time they were recorded and the meaning for us in our time and place. Just remember not to take one verse out of context when meditating on the meaning. One verse out of context can be twisted to mean whatever we want to insist it means. This is a common trick of the devil and of self-centered man.

I do hope all readers of this blog always take time to read the verse I quote within the context of the verses around it in their own Bibles and the translation that best suits their understanding.
