John 15:7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

We tend to center in on the last part of the verse, asking and getting what we wish. We tend to ignore the first part about abiding in Him and His words abiding in us. We can’t get the last part without the first. To abide in Him we must have His words abiding in us. We’ve receive His grace of salvation and forgiveness but to maintain it we must learn to abide in Him through His words abiding in us. His words can’t abide in us if we don’t know them. We know them through reading, studying, memorizing and meditating on God’s written word, the Holy Bible. For them to abide in us we must immerse ourselves in them. As with all diets, we have a choice of what to eat. We can eat things full of nutrition or eat empty calories of sugar. We can fill ourselves with the “wisdom” of the world or fill ourselves on the wisdom of God. The choice is ours. Abide in Him or in the world. We can’t do both.
