Cerimonial Washing

John 2:6 Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons.

Please open your own Bible and read the continuing verses. This is the wedding in Cana where Jesus and His family were guest. The host ran out of wine and Jesus’ mother asked Him to fix the problem. She knew what her Son could do. He wasn’t ready but honored His mother’s wishes. The water jugs Jesus chose to use were not for drinking water but for ceremonial washing of hands and feet. Jesus turned what was just ceremonial into the new wine which was better than any wine ever tasted before. This new wine would Bering joy. The Holy Spirit is the new wine Jesus was showing would come. It is the new wine of the Holy Spirit that fills us with joy. No amount of ceremony, no amount of self cleansing can bring us the joy that is found in the dwelling of the Holy Spirit within us. Our question is are we showing this joy and wetting the appetites of others to seek this joy through Jesus?
