Our Obligation

Romans 15:1 We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves.

We start with a question: do we seek first to please ourselves or to please God. If we are honest we must admit that many if not most of the time we seek to please ourselves. Even when we seek to please God we fight the temptation to take self-pleasure in how we please God. We are so intent on demanding our rights we forget about God’s rights. He has the right to use us in any way He pleases no matter how we might feel about it. We are full of complaints when things don’t seem to go our way, the way that pleases us. We also have the obligation to help and encourage others who are weak in their resolve to please God. Only when we realize we have no rights due to our own sinful nature can we be sensitive to the needs of others. Let us remember it is only by the grace of Hod we draw our next breath.
