Showing Spiritual Maturity

James 3:8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

The tongue cannot be tamed. It reveals what is in our hearts and minds. In Psalms 51 David prays for a clean heart and steadfast mind, not a clean tongue. Our tongues show our spiritual maturity. As we mature spiritually we become more discerning to the others around us and less needy to give quick voice to our own opinions and judgements. We also learn to use our ears to hear in the way God hears, through love and patience. This takes spiritual growth through prayer, Bible study and meditation as we experience life for ourselves. Let’s listen to our own tongues and see how we are maturing.
