Good Listener

Luke 2:46. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.

Jesus was (and still is) a good listener. After listening He would ask questions, not because He didn’t know the answers, but to encourage the speakers to think further. He still does this through His Holy Spirit today. Our problem is we like to do all the talking. We tend to think we have all the answers. We have a double lesson to learn through this. One is listening to those around us. We need to listen with listening minds then ask questions to clarify what we think we heard and, if needed, guide the speaker into deeper thought. The second lesson is the listening prayer. We need to take more tome in listening to the Holy Spirit than we spend talking. Let us practice the art of being good listeners.
