Our Own Tools

1 Samuel 17:39-40. and David strapped his sword over his armor. And he tried in vain to go, for he had not tested them. Then David said to Saul, “I cannot go with these, for I have not tested them.” So David put them off. Then he took his staff in his hand and chose five smooth stones from the brook and put them in his shepherd’s pouch. His sling was in his hand, and he approached the Philistine.

David had the wisdom to use the tools God had given him and he had practice with instead of using the tools of another. So often we try to copy the way others do their tasks. God gives each of us the appropriate means to do the tasks He gives us in the way best suited for us and for His glory. Just because someone does the same type of things we do in a different way doesn’t mean their way is right for us or our way is right for them. So often we criticize others because their method is different from ours. This way of thinking doesn’t apply to harmful or illegal methods but to differing ways of doing things. Let us learn not to judge but rejoice when other’s are successful even when it’s done in a different way or the outcome differs.
