We Don’t Receive

James 4:3. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.

So many are full of inner conflict. We want what we want when we want it the way we want it. We pray for what we want in that self-centered way. Because we have invited Jesus into our hearts we are full of inner conflict: our old wants versus wanting to want what God wants. We can’t escape that conflict as long as we do ar entertain doing any of the things listed in these verses from Galatians (Galatians 5:19-21). Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But read on (Galatians 5:22-24) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Notice to grow these fruits we must crucify our fleshly passions and desires. Let our goal be to continually grow the fruits of God’s Holy Spirit by practicing using them throughout each day.
