Motivation to Study

I I Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

There is a problematic challenge for Bible teachers, preachers and Christian writers. When reading and studying the Bible the temptation is always to do it with a sermon, teaching or writing in mind. These motivations can block out the study for self, for what God is saying to our own personal life for our own personal growth. We must first feed ourselves before we feed others. In classroom discussions we find people more anxious to speak of what they know than to listen to what others have learned. Instead of listening for our own benefit we listen to see what we can add. We want to appear knowledgable. Let us learn to seek knowledge for our own growth. As we grow God will open up opportunities to share our knowledge with others in a way that will increase our own growth and encourage theirs. Let us show ourselves approved unto God through our studies and our listening skills.
