Author and Perfecter

Hebrews 11:2 let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him, endured the cross, scorning its shame and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

The Greek word that the word ” author” comes from means leader, one who goes before to open and lead the way. This is exactly what Jesus did for us. He went before us to open our way to God. Without His sacrifice of shed blood we could never be in the presence of God. God, by His very nature cannot be in the presence of sin. Jesus took our sin on Himself so we could be forgiven and renewed in the image of our Creator. Note the word “perfecter.” Our way is perfect through Jesus. No other way is necessary, let alone possible. Salvation and the restored image of God has been accomplished through Jesus and is ours for the asking. When we ask Jesus into our hearts, minds and lives we are given the promise of recreation into God’s image in us. He gives us His Holy Spirit to weed out the foreign matter that comes through sin and replaces it with His fruit. It is our responsibility to allow that fruit to grow thereby allowing the image of God in us shine into this world of darkness. The question is, how is our fruit?
