Left-overs

1 Kings 17:13. ” And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said. But first make me a little cake of it and bring it to me, and afterward make something for yourself and your son.”

We are so concerned with taking care of our own needs and wants first. We are number one. When we have that attitude we don’t have room for God to be number one in our hearts, lives or minds. We can have only one number one. Elijah instructed this widow to put God first by feeding His servant. He promised her God would supply her needs after she put Him first. So often we give to God through offerings in our churches from what is left over after we pay for our own wants and needs. We don’t give of our ‘first fruits’ but of the last fruits, if we have any left over. Through the years we have learned when we give to God first there is enough left for all our needs. Let us trust God and give to Him our first fruits rather than our left-overs.
