II Corinthians 4:6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

God is light. He created light in the darkness of the expanse. Mankind chose to live in darkness. God sent His light into the darkness through His Word, His Son, Jesus Christ. After Christ shed His blood for our darkness He sent His Holy Spirit to shine His light within us. We can choose to continue to walk in darkness or choose to allow His light to penetrate in and through us by way of His Holy Spirit. Learning to walk in this light is a process of Bible study, meditation and prayer. When a light bulb is not connected to the source of power it is useless and all is dark. Our question is are we staying connected to our Source of power?
