Rationalizing

Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

Every word in the Holy Bible has been tried over decades and centuries of time. As people try to prove things false in the Bible they end up proving them true. As Christians we are to check all words with God. We do that by checking our words and thoughts and those of others with what is already recorded in the Holy Bible. We are instructed to obey God’s laws as recorded in the Holy Bible, then, when not in conflict, to obey the laws of our land. When making a decision where do we go for help in that decision? We are to go to the Holy Bible. Many years ago we were in the market for a house even though we had another house in a different state that hadn’t sold. We found one we really liked but we would have to be creative in the financing if we bought it before selling the other house. We decided since we would be using the house for many church activities we could count that as our tithe and not give any money to the church. The Bible says to tithe our income. In just 6 months we had to leave our new jobs and return to our previous state. It took 4 years for the new house to sell. During that time God used it to bless a young family with a rent-free place to live while the house was on the market. When it did sell we wrote a check at closing for the difference in what we owed and what we could sell it for. We learned not to rationalize God’s laws to suit our desires or convenience. We must always check our motives and make sure we are in agreement with the word of God.
