God is Changeless

Ezekiel 18:23 Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked? saith the Lord Jehovah; and not rather that he should return from his way, and live?

In Sunday Bible class the topic of God in the Old Testament came up with the conversation leaning to God was harsh in the Old Testament commanding people be killed and became gracious in the New Testament. We can see from this verse that isn’t so, God isn’t changeable. He is the same from day-to-day for all eternity. God is as gracious in the Old Testament as He is in the New Testament, and as He is today. He doesn’t want one person to be separated from Him and His love. It is mankind and the hardness of man’s heart to remain separated from God. God gives each person many opportunities to come to Him. As we read the history written in the Old Testament we can see how often mankind refused to humble himself and acknowledge and worship God. For the good of the believers God eventually ends the lives of the hard-hearted. God is full of grace. If not, He wouldn’t have allowed His Word, His Son Jesus, to separate from Him and take on human likeness, The Old Testament is just as good for teaching us Who God is and what He hopes for us as the New Testament so let us not dismiss it from our studies.
