Ephesians 4:32 and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, even as God also in Christ forgave you.

Jesus said a lot about forgiveness. Nowhere did He say forgive only those who deserve forgiveness or who ask for it. He said to forgive, over and over if necessary. Forgiveness might benefit the one forgiven but the biggest benefit is for the one doing the forgiving. When we harbor unforgiveness it grows into bitterness, resentment and them hate. This separates us from God’s love. In the Lord’s Prayer which Jesus taught as an example of what to include in our prayers He said God forgives us in the same manner as we forgive others. A good barometer of unforgiveness lurking in our hearts is unanswered prayer. There are times we are not consciously aware of an unforgiving spirit within us. We must be open to the Holy Spirit’s gentle nudging of unforgiveness within us. Let us learn to forgive quickly, not because others deserve it but because God is quick to forgive us.
