The Work Not the Vessel

(Numbers 11:26) But there remained two men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the Spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but had not gone out unto the Tent; and they prophesied in the camp.

Eldad and Medad were supposed to be among the 70 men who were called to help Moses with the governing of the Hebrews. For some reason, we don’t know why, these 2 men weren’t with the group of men in the tabernacle tent when the cloud of God’s Holy Spirit came to rest on the men. Some would think these 2 men were at the wrong place at the wrong time. We don’t know. But what we do know is, where they were, the same cloud that enveloped the other men with God’s Holy Spirit enveloped these 2 men where they were. They received the same blessing as the others. Joshua was upset because the blessing of these 2 men didn’t come through Moses as did the blessing of the others. Moses was more humble than Joshua. He recognized God had the right to bless who He chose when He chose. Today we seem to be very name conscious. We tend to judge people’s ability by what school they attended, who they work for, what their title is. What counts is what they allow God to do through them. We tend to look at the person being used rather than the work God is doing. Let us not be so quick to judge God’s work by judging the vessel He is using. God can work through whomever He chooses in any way He chooses.
