Moving On

2Sa 19:37 Let thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, by the grave of my father and my mother. But behold, thy servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto thee.

Barzillai was a faithful servant of King David throughout David’s hard time with Saul. David wanted to honor him and give him a place of honor in his court. There comes a time in everyone’s ministry when it is time to step back and let others flow in their ministry. Barzillia recognized it was time for him to do this and had a recommendation. David was pleased with the way Bazillai presented the recommendation and, though he was disappointed not to have his faithful Barzillai continue on with him, he embraced Chimham. Chimham went on to establish an inn which bore his name for 4 centuries. (Jeremiah 41:17 and they departed, and dwelt in Geruth Chimham, which is by Bethlehem, to go to enter into Egypt,) This inn was on the road from Jerusalem to Bethlehem. Who know Who may have stayed in that inn. What we learn from this piece of history is that we must be sensitive when it’s time to move on and let others continue in our service. It’s not always old age but sometimes God moves us on to different ministries. We must learn to be flexible to the bidding of God’s Holy Spirit.
