Foot In Mouth

Mark 7:5-6 Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.)

Poor Peter. He had no idea of the significance of what he was seeing yet he just had to find something to say. How often have we been in Peter’s place? Granted we haven’t witnessed this wonderful event but there are many times we don’t know what to say. Instead of asking God what we should say and listening to the quiet voice of the Holy Spirit we usually just blurt out something like Peter did. We are quick to speak because we want to stay in control of what’s happening. There is a saying, ‘Put your foot in your mouth.” I’m sure my mouth must have grown in size considering the amount of times I’ve put my foot in it. Let’s learn to be slow of speech, just slow enough to check with God as to what we should say, if we should say anything.
