Owning Up

2 Samuel; 12:7 Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man! This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul.

David was a man after God’s own heart. He was King of Israel and led Israel back to worshiping God. Yet David chose to give into temptation. Not only that, he also tried to cover up his sin with yet another sin, killing an innocent man. When Samuel pointed this out to David, David had the power to keep Samuel quiet or even kill him. But David recognized and owned up to his sin, confessing and asking forgiveness. Maybe our sins don’t seem as big as those of David but any sin, anything that isn’t in line with the characteristics of love defined in 1 Corinthians 13, separates us from God. Our question is do we quickly own up to our sin, confess and ask forgiveness or do we try to cover it up with excuses and/or other sins? Let us be quick to take responsibility for our own thoughts, words and actions and move on with God.
