Forsakeing

Isaiah 55:7 Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

We all, in and of ourselves are wicked and unrighteous. We are to forsake our natural way of wickedness and our unrighteous thoughts. These include thoughts and words of criticism, judgement, bitterness, prejudice and so on. Any thought and/or action that doesn’t fit in to the description of love in 1 Corinthians 13 is to be forsaken and pushed out of our minds and life styles. There are no ifs or buts. We can’t rationalize our right to think or act out. Our questions is how often do we make up excuses to act or think outside of love?

Be Merciful

Luke 6:36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

God is merciful. It was His love and mercy that allowed the Father to send the Son, Jesus to this earth and suffer to take the penalty for our sins. It is His mercy that allows His Holly Spirit to dwell in each and every believer/follower. It is His mercy that not only forgives our sins but never brings a forgiven sin back to His mind. Our question is how are we doing in our mercy to others? Are we quick to anger? Do we hold a grudge? Do we keep accounts of what we consider to be wrongs against us? God tells us to be merciful in the same way He is merciful. Next time we start to criticize or get angry let us pause and remember God’s mercy toward us and do the same for others.

No Mistakes

Psalms 145:17 The LORD is righteous in all his ways and faithful in all he does.

Some wonder why infants die yet some people die in their 100’s. Most are born complete yet some are bone with missing parts. Yet scripture says God is righteous – He doesn’t make mistakes. God can prevent babies dying. He can prevent them being born with missing parts. We don’t have the mind of God. We can’t understand why He does what He does. We can only know God is righteous and faithful. He is full of love and compassion. He is full of grace towards mankind. Mankind makes mistakes,. Mankind must walk out the consequences of their mistakes. God forgives our sins but we still reap the consequences of the sins while on this earth. We can walk the consequences knowing God is with us and we will be with Him in all eternity because of the forgiveness of our sins won on the cross by Jesus, God’s Word made flesh.

Putting on Holiness

Job 42:5-6 My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.”

Job had a personal encounter with God. In that encounter he saw just how holy God is. He also saw how very sinful he was in spite of his living what appears to be a moral and trustworthy life. We don’t realize our own sin until we realize the holiness of God. It takes darkness to appreciate light. It takes seeing God’s holiness to see our own sin. We tend to think of ourselves as good, caring people but in comparison to God’s holiness we are filthy rags, unfit for heaven. It is only because of the gift of God through His Word, Jesus, Who offered Himself as a sacrifice for our sin that we can clothe ourselves with the holiness of Jesus. As God looks at us, unless He sees the holiness of His Son, we are nothing but filth. Have you clothed yourselves in the holiness of Jesus? What about your family and friends? Show them how to put on the holiness of Jesus.

Approaching God

Ecclesiastics 5:1 Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong.

When we pray or worship we must consider how we approach God. Because we have accepted Jesus into our hearts, minds and lives God is our Father, our Dad. So often we concentrate on the fact that He is our Father we tend to approach Him as we do our earthly fathers. God is most Holy and should be approached and spoken to in an attitude of awe and respectful, holy fear. It is not for us to tell God what to do but for us to ask what He wants to do through us. It is not for us to complain about situations on this earth but to rejoice that our home is in His Presence in heaven. It is not for us to feel proud of what we have but to be thankful we can give and desire to give even more. Let us keep in mind how it is we approach God in prayer and worship.

Holy is Wholeness

Isaiah 6:3 And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”

God is holy. Holy describing God means complete or whole. God is totally complete. He lacks nothing. He is perfect. Mankind strives to be holy. We try to be complete in God through Jesus. We try to be set apart for our God. Because we continually are at odds with God’s Holy Spirit we are not whole or holy. We might think we desire to be holy but we treasure our flesh and our carnal things. We continually battle between the desire for holiness and the desire for things of this world. Our question is are we willing for God’s Holy Spirit to work within us and bring us into holiness, to be wholly immersed in God’s Holy Spirit.

I AM Sent Me

Exodus 3:14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ”

Moses was on the mountain having an encounter with God. He was looking for any excuse not to do what God was telling him to do. When Moses tried to say he needed to have the name of someone with enough authority he could say order him to do such a task God responded with, “I AM WHO I AM.” God is constant. He is never-changing. He is always all-powerful, all-knowing and all present. He is always just and love. He has given us the same authority He gave Moses. We are not leading an entire ethnic population from one country to another but we are to lead all we meat out of the country of sin and absence of God to the Kingdom of God through Jesus Christ, the Word of God made flesh. Our question is what excuses are we giving God to keep us from doing His bidding?

All Powerful

Psalms 139:13-19 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand — when I awake, I am still with you. If only you, God, would slay the wicked! Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty!

Hear the Psalmist contemplates on the power of God. God has complete power. There is none more powerful than God. God created all that was, is or will ever be. God has the power to change His creations any way He chooses. Yet, in all that power, God has chosen to give His followers the power of prayer. It is through prayer that we are privilege to share God’s power to change the directions’ of lives on this earth. Our question is are we taking advantage of that power?

Always Present

Psalms 139:7-12 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.

Hear the Psalmist talks about how God is present everywhere. He is fully present in Heaven on His throne. He is also fully present with each and every person who has invited His Son, Jesus, into their lives, hearts and minds. We are never out of the sight or presence of God. When we allow Him, He orders our footsteps. When we walk through the depths Of darkness He is there with us. When we are rejoicing on the mountaintops of life He is there. There is no place or time on this earth when He isn’t with us. When we are not aware of His presence with us it is because we have chosen to try to hide from Him. He is still there Let us choose to learn and practice always being aware of His presence with us and us with Him.

All Knowing

Psalms 139:1-6 You have searched me, LORD, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

These verses talk about how God is all-knowing. There is nothing we can do, say or even think that God doesn’t see, hear and know. We may hide actions, words or thoughts from others or even try to hide them from ourselves but not from God. Yet, in spite of His all-knowing, He loves us. To know ourselves we must know God. Through His Holy Spirit He will reveal our innermost being to us as we are able to see and able to allow Him to re-mold us into His image. Our question is do we really want to know what lies deep within us and deal with it according to His wisdom and mercy?
