Small Task

Exodus 2:4 His sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him.

Moses’s sister, Mariam, isn’t given enough credit. She had to put her baby brother, Moses, into a river. She put him in amongst the reeds near the shore so the basket wouldn’t drift away and she hid to watch over the baby. When Pharaoh’s daughter came and discovered Moses, Miriam had the presence of mind to volunteer to get a wet-nurse for the baby and Moses was able to spend his first 4 years being taught about God with his mother and sister. Some think this was a minor task for the sister of Moses but without her there might have been no exile to the new land for God’s chosen people, the Hebrews. So often we don’t want to do what we consider to be a small, unimportant task but when the task is done in obedience and to the glory of God, no task is small or unimportant. It is not for us to judge the value of a task. It is for us to do and obey.
