Proverbs 13{1 A wise son heeds his father’s instruction, but a mocker does not respond to rebukes.

To help us understand Proverbs we must be familiar with the style of writing. Most of it is written in couplet. In this style the writer places two ideas side by side. Each one complements the other. Some of these couplets are contemplative. Some are contrasting. Many compare the two thoughts. It’s like flipping a coin that has two sides. Each of the statements can stand alone. As we read through Proverbs let’s note whether they are contrasting, contemplative or comparative.
