Proverbs 18:16 16 A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great. (NIV)

Giving gifts at Christmas started from the Magi who came with gifts for Jesus.  Then the tradition became of giving to show a desire and appreciation for a relationship.  Now they seem to be obligatory.  We are in a rush to open them, say a quick thank you then move on to open the next gift.  A gift should be something from the heart that says I appreciate our relationship.  It doesn’t need to be material.  The best gifts are those of service and time.  Our question this season is what gift will we bring to the Christ Child?  Will we offer Him from our best?  How about a gift of time?  Why not pray and ask Him where He wants us to donate a gift of time?  Let us be more prayerful as we think on what gifts to give to whom and give of our best to exemplify the relationships we appreciate.
