Advent

Matthew 3:3 3 This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’” (NIV)aD

Sunday was the first day of Advent.  Advent is a time of preparation for celebrating the birth of our Savior.  So many churches and believers no longer acknowledge the Advent season.  Preparing for celebration is a good thing to do.  We prepare in many ways in our homes by decorating, baking, sending Christmas cards, etc.  We must also prepare our hearts.  We are inundated by so much commercialism that sometimes it’s hard to remember what Christmas is really about.  Taking time to prepare our hearts keeps the “Christ” in Christmas.  This is a good time to discipline our meditation, scripture and prayer time.  This is also a good time to review how we are doing in giving our time and our finances to spreading the good news of the coming of Jesus into our world and our lives.  John, the Baptizer, gave his time, and eventually his life, calling all to prepare to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior.  During these 4 weeks of Advent, let us join the baptizer in preparing not only ourselves, but preparing others to receive Jesus into our lives, minds and hearts.
