Matthew 2:7 7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. Matthew 2:12 12 And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.  Matthew 2:16 16 When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. (NIV)

Herod played a major role in fulfilling the prophecies about Jesus.  In Jeremiah 31:15 15 This is what the Lord says: “A voice is heard in Ramah, mourning and great weeping, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.”  We also read in Hosea 11:1 1 “When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.”  It’s doubtful Joseph and Mary would have fled to Egypt if the angel didn’t tell him to go there in a dream.  We can’t understand why God allowed all boy babies to be slaughtered, but we can’t see the entire picture.  We must choose to continue to trust God has only good for His children but sometimes we must wade through the bad and hurtful to get to God’s good because, until Jesus, God’s Son, come for God’s children on this earth, Satan still is at large.  It is up to us to stand up to the evil deeds of Satan to bring God’s peace and joy into our time and space.  Our question today is what are we doing to communicate God’s love and peace to those around us?
