Genesis 38:26 26 Judah recognized them and said, “She is more righteous than I, since I wouldn’t give her to my son Shelah.” And he did not sleep with her again.

Tamar was a fighter.  She was mistreated by her father-in-law, Judah.  She was also very smart and was able to make plans to cause Judah to honor her according to Jewish law.  Her story is very worth the time to read in Genesis 38 and I encourage you to do so.  Reading it straight from scripture is much better than my rewriting it in my own words.  By including Tamar in the genealogy of Jesus, God was showing that He welcomes sinners into His family.  Tamar was mistreated but used deception to gain what was being denied to her.  Whatever sins or how ever many sins we’ve done in the past we can lay at the cross of Jesus and know they are all forgiven forever. We can also learn from Tamar to persevere, when mistreated,  not through deception but according to the precepts set down for us in God’s written word, the Holy Bible.
