Ruth

Ruth 1:16 Ruth 1:16 (NIV)16 But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.

 Ruth was a foreigner and raised to believe in idols.  She married a Hebrew seeking protection from famine in her country.  She had opportunity to see how believers in God lived and it impacted her life.  She was willing to leave her home and all she knew to go to the strange land of her deceased husband’s family rather than staying with the familiar of her family and give her allegiance to the God of her husband’s family.  She took good care of her mother-in-law and followed her advice.  God blessed Ruth for her commitment.  Not only is she included in the lineage of Jesus but she has an entire book in the Bible named after her.  It is very good reading.  What is it God wants you to leave behind and what new thing does He want you to seek?

Bathsheba

2 Samuel 12:24 (NIV) 24 Then David comforted his wife Bathsheba, and he went to her and made love to her. She gave birth to a son, and they named him Solomon. The Lord loved him;

 Once again we find a woman who was a sinner in the linage of Jesus.  By now we should all be assured that even though we are sinners that doesn’t stop God from working His will and purpose through us.  During these last few days of Advent, let’s ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to us any sin that is holding us back from being free to allow God’s Holy Spirit to flow through us.  Confess what He reveals to us and receive His forgiveness then be sure to forgive ourselves.  Stand on the fact that this sin no longer separates us from God and is considered gone forever.  If it’s a sin of repetition, make up our minds to no longer be chained to that sinful habit and turn our backs and our minds away from it.  If it is an action let’s be sure to replace it with an action pleasing to God.
