Rahab

Matthew 1:5 5 Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, (NIV)

Rahab was a harlot.  But she took mercy on the Israelite spies and hid them for their protection.  She apparently had heard how the Hebrews were defeating all who stood in their way and wanted to find a way to protect herself and her family.  She promised the spies safety if they would protect her when they defeated the city.  You can read her story in Joshua 2 and 6.  Though Rahab wasn’t a believer in the one, true God, she had heard of His power.  Protecting the spies turned her life around and she, though a harlot in her past, was honored and included in the lineage of Jesus.  Our past is under the cross of Jesus and our lives, when we come to the cross, are redeemed and we are honored as children of the most high God.  Rahab put her past behind and we can too.
