Led to Temptation

Matthew 4:1 1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. (NIV)

After Jesus was baptized and reunited with the Holy Spirit He was led into the wilderness.  Notice the Spirit led Him.  Jesus did not make the decision on His own to go into the wilderness.  Many times we choose to take the wilderness route on our own.  When we choose to do this, God leaves us to our own devices until we repent.  When God leads us into the wilderness through His Holy Spirit, He does so for our own growth and spiritual strength.  He goes with us into the wilderness to teach us how to stand up to the temptations of the wilderness.  When we find ourselves in the wilderness we must ask ourselves how we got there.  Did we choose to follow after a temptation that we knew was against God’s will for us?  Are we choosing to go into places where we know sin abounds?  Are we reading or looking at things we know are strong temptations for us?  Let us be honest with ourselves, recognize why we are where we are, repent when it is from our own choosing and allow God’s Holy Spirit to give us wisdom to walk on through and out of it.
