Pure Heart

Matthew 5:8 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God (NIV)

Only the pure in heart will see God and spend eternity in His presence.  In Psalms, we read, “Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me.”  We are asking God for a pure heart.  To have a pure heart doesn’t mean we are without sin.  It means we have given our heart to God through His Son, Jesus Christ, as our Lord and Savior.  It means we have chosen to obey His word as given to us in the Holy Bible.  It means we confess our sins and repent, choosing to turn away from sin and walk in His Light and His righteousness.  It is only by following Jesus that our heart can be pure.  We cannot do enough “good works” to purify our own heart.  Only through Jesus and the infilling of His Holy Spirit can our hearts be purified.  They are purified by God’s mercy and grace through His Son.  With a pure heart we confess our love for God.  With a pure heart, we repent and walk anew in the forgiveness God gives us.  Let’s keep our hearts pure through Jesus by meditating on His word and fellowshipping with Him through each and every day.
