Matthew 6:19-21 19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (NIV)

Many confess Jesus as Lord and Savior but their actions tell the truth.  What is it we hang on to?  For many, it’s money.  If we don’t tithe, we are stealing God’s money because the tithe (10% of our money) belongs to Him for His use.  Then we are to give offerings.  How many times do we see someone in need and we just walk by as if we don’t see.  Our closets also tell a story.  My rule is if I haven’t worn it in a year I don’t need it but someone else does.  Many conduct garage sales because they want as much money as they can get for the items they no longer want or need.  Then they keep the money for themselves, not even tithing a portion of it.  All those items we no longer need are needed by people who can’t pay anything for them.  Another treasure many store up is their time.  We tend to forget all our time is a gift from God.  He wants us to share our time with those around us.  It might be a visit to a nursing home or taking food to a sick friend.  Our treasures are what comes first into our hearts and minds.  Scripture tells us to let all we do be done as to God.  Let’s ask ourselves if what we are doing today will put a smile on our God’s face today.
