Honor Now

Matthew 13:57 57 And they took offense at him.  But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home.” (NIV)

Sometimes it seems the people closest to us are the most critical of us.  Of course, we can turn that backwards and say sometimes we are the most critical of those closest to us.  We need to make sure we build our love ones up and let them know how much we love, honor, respect and appreciate them.  At memorial services, we say all sorts of good and loving things about the one who has died.  It is a shame we don’t say those things to the one who is with us while they are with us.  In our mind we can write an obituary about someone we have been criticizing and then pray and ask God forgiveness for our critical thoughts and words.  Then let’s be sure we verbally give love and honor to that person in the here and now.  Let us be sure we honor the ones closest to us even more than we honor others we hold in esteem.
