Grieving

Matthew 14:13a 13 When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. (NIV)

Jesus withdrew to a private place to be alone.  He had just been told His cousin, John the Baptizer, had been beheaded.  Jesus wanted some time alone to grieve.  He knew John was with His Father in heaven but He still grieved.  It’s okay to grieve when we lose someone we love.  It doesn’t mean we don’t have faith or we don’t trust God.  It just means we miss the one we love.  We seem to think we must show a brave face to the world or they will think we don’t have faith.  Jesus had more than faith.  He had absolute knowledge yet He still grieved at John’s departure from this world.  We must not criticize or condemn those who are mourning.  Jesus even said those who mourn will be comforted.  So, if you’ve lost someone you love it’s okay to grieve.  Just do it with Jesus telling the Father thanks for the time you’ve had with that person even though a certain amount of sadness remains.  His joy in You can partner with the sadness of the loss.
