Matthew 16:18-19 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” (NIV)

What God has revealed to me about these two verses may upset some people.  Jesus was not referring to Peter as a person as being the rock He builds His church on.  He builds His church on the confession of Peter saying Jesus is the Son of the Living God and the Messiah promised centuries before.  When we accept Jesus, agreeing with Peter’s statement of faith, we are given the keys of the kingdom of heaven because heaven is our home and those who live in the home have the keys to it.  Jesus is the key.  Through the Holy Spirit Who now dwells in each and every believer, what we bind or loose on this earth is also bound or loosed in heaven.  That is one reason it is so very important to forgive others immediately.  Unforgiveness binds us and others to sin.  Forgiveness looses us and others.  Our question is, if we are living out this statement of faith are we picking up our responsibility of being a key holder, binding only the sin and loosing the sinner into the love and acceptance of Jesus?
