Not Good Enough

Matthew 16:27-28 27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done. (NIV)

Yes, we will be rewarded for what we have done as long as what we have done is out of love for Jesus.  We cannot earn our way to heaven.  There is no way for any human to do enough or be good enough to get into heaven.  We only get the keys to enter heaven through believing in and trusting and living for Jesus in the way He showed us to live.  Because of what Jesus did for us we will also come into the Father’s glory if we have lived for Him.  The verses preceding this (I do hope you read the entire section) deal with taking up our cross, denying ourselves and living for Him.  This doesn’t mean we don’t take care of ourselves but it does mean we love and serve others rather than wanting others to serve us.  We serve others out of the love we have for God because He loves us more than we can understand and gave His only Son for us.  Yes, He knew He would have His Son back but, His Son is different now that He has taken on our sins.  This is love beyond our understanding.  If this doesn’t motivate us to “take up our cross” and follow Him in service and love to others I would have to question if we really know and trust Him as our Lord and Savior.
