Forgive As

Matthew 18:35 35 “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.” (NIV)

Un-forgiveness is a giant of a separator from God.  Jesus said God forgives us in the same manner in which we forgive others.  We must really let that sink into our minds and hearts.  God doesn’t say, “I’ll think about it.” He doesn’t say, “Only if you’ll do something for me.”  God says, I forgive You.  But we must remember every promise God makes has a condition.  We must recognize Jesus as God’s Son and follow Him and we must forgive others.  These conditions must be met for His forgiveness. Un-forgiveness in us binds us.  When we are bound we aren’t free to love.  Bondage invites even more sin.  Forgiveness and forgetting aren’t the same thing. When we forgive we will probably remember some of the hurts but we no longer hold the person accountable for the hurt.  When we are forgiven by God we still bear the consequences of our actions in this world but God no longer holds us accountable for it.  We are washed clean to have fellowship with Him for eternity.  Let’s not let one day pass without checking with the Holy Spirit and asking forgiveness for things done, thought or left undone during the day, making sure we are not holding gurges or anger or unforgiveness against some else.  Then let’s be sure to thank God for His forgiveness and strive not to repeat that thought or action.
