Go In Power

Acts 1:4 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. (NIV)

Jesus told His disciples to wait.  They were not to go make disciples until they received the Holy Spirit.  Working on our own power doesn’t accomplish much.  We may have all the intelligence and physical capability available but without the power and wisdom of the Holy Spirit our work for God’s kingdom is in vain.  We can do all sorts of seemingly marvelous things in the material world but nothing in the spiritual world without the Holy Spirit.  The disciples were full of fear, even after seeing, talking, listening and eating with the resurrected Jesus.  Fear didn’t leave until they received the Holy Spirit.  It was then they were able to have faith instead of fear and speak the truth of God with boldness.  We can do all sorts of work of charity and all sorts of work in and through our churches but if we are not allowing the Holy Spirit to work through us our work will be lacking.  It is imperative to ask for a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit at the start of each day and depend on Him to give us wisdom and power for any task at hand.  Let us go forth in His power and wisdom making disciples throughout our homes, schools, churches, places of work, neighborhoods and the world.
