Psalms 43:5 5 Why, my soul, are you downcast?  Why so disturbed within me?  Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. (NIV)

In life we will have times of discouragement and sadness.  David certainly had his share.  But David refused to stay in a state of discouragement or sadness.  He knew His life was in the hands of God.  How did he change his emotional state?  He chose to praise God.  We may not feel like saying or singing words of praise when we are discouraged but we do have a choice.  When we start verbalizing the positive such as praise to God, eventually we really start to put our mind on the power and love of God rather than dwelling on the source of our discouragement.  Gradually we find God’s joy enveloping our mind and changing the way we feel.  When we have turned from discouragement to joy through praising God we open our hearts and minds to God’s answer for the situation which brought us down to discouragement.  The Bible is full of instructions to praise God in all things. Let us stop the “woe is me” attituded and remember to always give praise to God in all circumstances.  This tunes our spiritual ears to really hear the way God will lead us through any situation.
